NSUD wraps up 58th annual sports meet

DIMAPUR, APRIL 7 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Union, Delhi (NSUD), concluded its 58th Annual Sports Meet on April 5, following a four-day event aimed at fostering unity and community spirit among Nagas in the capital.

Held under the theme “Together We Rise, Together We Soar,” the sports meet opened on April 2 at the NPL Police Ground in Kingsway Camp, Jepi Y Chisho, President of NSUD, described the event as a vital platform for community-building and urged participants to uphold the spirit of unity throughout the games.

Ten teams, each representing two tribal units, participated in a range of events including football, volleyball, basketball, chess, arm wrestling, and track races. The meet was declared open by Kuolie Mere, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Nagaland, and Chief Advisor to NSUD. The athletes’ oath was administered by Michael Maningdouba, NSUD’s Sports Secretary.

The final matches and the closing ceremony took place on April 5, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of players and spectators. Mercy Epao, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, attended as the special guest. In her remarks, she praised the spirit of togetherness among the Naga community and encouraged continued collaboration within the union.

Trophies, certificates, and cash prizes were awarded to team champions in football, volleyball, and basketball. Individual winners in events such as chess, arm wrestling, the 100-meter dash, and relay races also received medals and prizes.

The closing ceremony was attended by members of the NSUD Advisory Board, Tribunal Members, senior community members, and former office bearers. NSUD General Secretary Emelda Piphyane delivered the welcome address. The vote of thanks was offered by Lovejoy Chothe, Assistant Games and Sports Secretary, who expressed appreciation to the Delhi Police and University of Delhi for providing the venue, as well as donors and sponsors for their support.

The event concluded with an official closing declaration by Epao and a prayer by Albert N Hau, Associate Pastor of Zeme Church Delhi.
