PEREN, OCTOBER 2 (MExN): The National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), Peren, in collaboration with DEF Peren and DMHP Peren, organised a one-day seminar on “The Ill Effects of Tobacco Consumption and COTPA 2003” here on September 29.
Igwangheing Hemang, NPS, Superintendent of Police, Peren, encouraged participants to avail services and seek early treatment for tobacco-related issues and mental health concerns.
Neilasenuo, Clinical Psychologist, highlighted the importance of mental health, stating it is as vital as physical health. She also elaborated on services provided at the OPD, including the TELE-MANAS initiative.
Dr Ao Yanger, DNO, NTCP Peren, addressed the harmful effects of tobacco consumption, particularly smokeless chewing tobacco (SLT), which has become socially accepted. He noted that oral cancer is increasingly being detected not only among older adults but also in younger populations, stressing early detection and treatment.
Neivinuo, Psychologist, NTCP, briefed participants on district-level NTCP activities. Hoinichin, Social Worker, NTCP, chaired the programme, while Dr Hiazuheing Ndang, Pastor, Police Baptist Church, Peren, delivered the opening prayer. The seminar concluded with a pledge on “Say No to Tobacco.”
