The Nagaland Two Wheeler Taxi Association (NTWTA), Kohima Headquarters, celebrated its 7th Foundation Day at Tsiesema Basa, Kohima on October 2.

Speaking as special guest, Kohima Municipal Council Councillor, Ward 18, Medoviu Suohu, highlighted the need to create more opportunities for indigenous people within the community.

He also appealed to the NTWTA and the government to give greater importance to riders who are already operating the service under permits owned by others adding that it would further provide more employment opportunities for the youths.

NTWTA President Keneisalie Belho, in his welcome address, said the Foundation Day was an occasion to reflect on the association’s achievements and challenges and renew its commitment towards growth and progress.

He said the association’s members work hard to earn a livelihood while serving the transportation needs of the public.  The president stressed that unity, cooperation, discipline and dedication were essential for improving services and upholding the dignity of the profession.

Belho also urged members to maintain discipline, follow traffic rules, prioritise road safety and treat passengers with respect and responsibility. He called for maintaining cordial relations with the community, village authorities, youth organisations and other associations.

The association currently has 420 registered riders and 17 executive members. The programme also featured the presentation of the Best Rider Award to Choyoli for discipline and good conduct. The award, sponsored by the family of Late Kekhriesilie V Rio, has been presented annually since 2022 in his memory.

Late Kekhriesilie V Rio joined the association in 2019 and remained an active member for four years. He passed away on August 13, 2022, at the age of 33 following an illness. The award was instituted as a tribute to his contribution and dedication as a rider and member of the association.

A special number was presented by Moarenla Aier and James Kamai pronounced the invocation. Grace Kath, Women Coordinator, NTWTA, delivered the vote of thanks.
