NU’s Engg students to continue agitation

Dimapur, August 11 (MExN): Engineering students of Nagaland University’s School of Engineering Technology and Management today said they would continue agitations till all the demands are fulfilled. The university’s authorities met on August 10 to discuss the demands of the students and a number of were conceded to. However, the SETAM Engineering Students’ Council expressed dissatisfaction that the university did not consider revision of the fee structure and that the university even went so far as to claim there were “permanent or faculty facilities” in the IT department of the school.
A statement of the students’ council, responding to the decisions oft the university authorities, was received here today. On the issue of removing the Dean of SETAM, the students agreed to the decision to remove the official but have also demanded a permanent administration’s officer. On the refund of Rs. 500 paid for “industrial visits, the students said the ‘response’ is satisfactory by the decision needs immediate implementation; on the library, the students said the ‘response’ is satisfactory as is for the issue about
transportation.
There were however a number of decisions that the students were unhappy about. About hostel facilities, the students said the PWD building used as a hostel lacks facilities. These include furniture, cooks, utensils and security. “These particulars should be furnished by the end of august 2011 making sure that the hostel becomes functional by the starting of September 2011” the students demanded.  Similar action is demanded for the new boys’ hostel, which the students’ council said lacks the stated facilities and action must be taken to correct this by the same date as given.
On practical equipments, the students’ council said the HODs have not received the “Empanel Firm” yet. “So, they are unable to place their respective orders,” the students stated.
Concerning the fee structure, the SETAM students said the ‘response’ is ‘not satisfactory’ because the necessary official documentation was not released by the headquarters and the reviewed final amount is still unknown to the officials of SETAM administration. “Without the consent of the above details admission cannot be done,” the SETAM students’ response stated.
On the issue of permanent faculties, the students rejected the claim of the university’s authorities. The IT department has no permanent or guest faculties. “The university, having the knowledge that IT department has only 2 permanent faculty, have let the current HOD i/c for study leave without making any necessary arrangement and also another faculty is on treatment leave. Therefore arrangement should be made immediately with not less than 4 faculties, so that the academic schedule is not affected,” the students said.
“Therefore, we the students of SETAM have decided to continue with the agitation until our demands are fulfilled,” the students’ statement added. The statement was appended by the students’ president Menyawongto and general secretary Jungshimanen Tzudir.
