Dimapur, March 15 (MExN): The Naga Women’s Union (NWU) has extended solidarity to the citizen of Myanmar in the fight against the oppressive rule of military junta.
Denouncing the brutality of the military junta and the cross violation of human rights meted out against peaceful protest, the Publicity Wing, NWU stated in a release that “this cowardly act of the military junta is a crime against humanity and demonstrate seriously defy to international human rights norms. The greed for power and fame has repeatedly violated basic civil and political rights of the citizens of Myanmar.”
The NWU also condemned the nullification of democratic system by means of military coup; the oppressive act against people’s democratic rights to elect their own representative; and the failure of the country’s security forces to hold accountable for the atrocities against its own citizens.
“NWU as an organisation believes in democracy and support People’s participation in decision making and not governance through military coup. We would like to see the elected government take its democratic place,” it stated.
The union also appealed to “Myanmar military to do away its outdated martial law and bring back the elected democratic government to join the modern global political civilization.”
It prayed for Myanmar and hoped that “justice, dignity and human rights prevail for all.”
