
Maligaon, November 28 (MExN): For the first time, Special Magistrate Court of Bongaigaon has imposed a penalty of Rs 8,000 against pulling of alarm chain of train and detention of train.
The offender pulled the alarm chain of train no 12520 DN Agartala-LokmanyaTilak Express on November 15 near Barpeta Road station. As a result of the chain pulling, the train stopped at Km 296/1 near Barpeta Road. On duty RPF team immediately swung into action and managed to apprehend the offender. “The person was later prosecuted under section 141 of the Railways Act with imposition of fine and recovery of train detention charge,” Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, NFR stated in a press release.
Previously RPF of NF Railway tracked down five similar cases in Alipurduar Division and 8 cases in Katihar division. All the apprehended persons are under trial in the jurisdiction of respective Courts for violation of the Railways Act.
Misuse of alarm chain on the passenger trains effects on punctuality and causes operational loss to Railways. To prevent any unexpected situation, every coach of the trains has equipped with alarm chain system. The alarm chains in the train are meant for the ease of passengers and to be used only during acute emergency involving safety/security during train journey. The use of alarm chain without sufficient and reasonable cause is a punishable offence under section 141 of the Railways Act which may lead to arrest or penalty or both.
