OIL project to enhance protection of Intanki National Park

Dimapur, February 28 (MExN): To mark the launching of the Oil India Limited (OIL) funded CSR initiative “for promotion of eco-tourism and enhance protection of Intanki National Park,” a monolith was unveiled at Manglumukh Protection Camp by CL John, Minister of Environment Forest & Climate Change on February 28.

An update issued by T Aochuba, Field Director, Intanki National Park stated that on the occasion, the Minister expressed gratitude to OIL for funding the project. He also appreciated the Department for proactive role in getting the fund to promote ecotourism and improve the livelihoods of the people.

‘Intanki National Park is the bank of our future because of the immense potential for eco-tourism in the National Park and that can be tapped only with the active co-operation and sincere participation from the community.’ CL John noted. He said that ‘Intanki has unique and beautiful landscape and the added advantage is that of the accessibility by train, airport and any mode of communication.’

He further emphasised on the need to capitalised our strong social capital, improve cleanliness and acquire other skills required to deal with the tourism industry. He urged upon the gathering that to make the government a good facilitator so as to help the people to develop business linked with the eco-tourism.

Mhonbemo Patton, Principal Secretary to DEFCC who was also present on the occasion said that the CSR initiative for eco-tourism is big programme for Nagaland and will open up ways for other departments to chip in. He called upon the people to support the efforts of the government as working together is the only way to bring results.

Dharmendra Prakash, PCCF & HoFF, Nagaland talked about the strategic location of the Intanki National Park and if only community and the government work together harmoniously, there is unlimited potential for nature tourism and will surely create our Intanki National Park  a spot in the  eco-tourism map of the world.

In his key note address, Ved Pal Singh, Chief wildlife Warden & Chairman of Intanki Forest Development Society also shared his vision of Intanki National Park. He substantiated his speech with examples like Corbett National Park, Pinch Tiger Reserve etc and how these Protected Areas have evolved in a short period of time to drive the economy of those states with eco-tourism activities.
