The Ongpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang (OKM) held the second-year programme of its Mission Vision-2045 at Ongpangkong Salang on Saturday, where two students were awarded financial assistance under the organisation's long-term education support initiative.
Advisor for Information & Public Relations and Soil & Water Conservation, Daochier I Imchen, attended the programme as the guest of honour.
Mission Vision-2045 was adopted during the 39th OKM General Conference held at Kupza Village from January 17 to 19, 2024. The 20-year programme, which runs from 2025 to 2045, aims to support deserving students from villages under the Ongpangkong Range.
Under the initiative, two students receive financial assistance of Rs 50,000 each every year. Beneficiaries are selected by their respective village students' unions after verification of their financial needs.
Speaking at the programme, Imchen said the financial assistance reflected the support and prayers of the Ao community, with the expectation that the recipients would contribute to society in the future.
He referred to the late N.I. Jamir, stating that he had received support from the people of Ongpangkong and later served the Ao and Naga people in senior positions, including as Chief Secretary and Cabinet Minister. He urged the students to follow the same spirit of service.
Imchen said time was a person's greatest asset and encouraged the youth to use it to learn, reflect and improve themselves. Referring to his recent election, he said young people should not be afraid of difficult work or making mistakes, adding that mistakes provide opportunities to learn.
He also announced that he would sponsor two students through this programme every year during his tenure as MLA through his Local Area Development Programme (LADP) fund.
Congratulating the recipients, Imchen urged them to value the opportunity and work towards meeting the expectations of their parents and community.
The recipients for 2026 were Imlijungla of Mekuli Kaketshir Telongjem and Arizongla Leo of Khensa Kaketshir Telongjem.
OKM also announced that in 2027, assistance under Mission Vision-2045 will be extended to two students from Chuchuyimpang Kaketshir Telongjem and Aliba Kaketshir Telongjem. Two additional students, from Kupza Kaketshir Telongjem and Aliba Kaketshir Telongjem, will receive sponsorship from Imchen.
Earlier, the programme began with a welcome address by Tongpangmangyang Kichu, President of OKM. Exhortations were delivered by Asangtila, President of Ongpangkong Tetsür Mungdang, and Bendangkumzük Aier, President of Asetkong Kaketshir Telongjem Mungdang. First-year beneficiaries Etidangla of Mangmetong Kaketshir Telongjem and Moarenba of Soyim Shisaluyimer Telongjem also shared their experiences under the programme.
