One sentenced to 6 months for sexual harassment

DIMAPUR, MARCH 30 (MExN): One person was sentenced to 6 months rigorous imprisonment for sexual harassment of a woman. A press release from the Additional Public Prosecutor Kohima informed that the Court of Mezivolu T Therieh, NJS, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Kohima convicted accused David Swunetho (44) under Section 354A(1)(i) of the Indian Penal Code in a judgment dated March 20. 

Upon conviction the Court sentenced the accused to 6 months rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs. 10,000; and in default of payment of fine, the accused shall further undergo 2 month simple imprisonment. 

While passing the sentence, the court observed that the offence committed was “serious in nature, affecting the dignity of woman.” At the same time, the Court “considered the mitigating circumstances before imposing sentence.” 

The case was investigated by ASI Venus Kikon, Women PS, Kohima. During the course of trial, the prosecution examined a total of nine witnesses. The case was prosecuted on behalf of state by L Sashimongla, Special Public Prosecutor, Kohima.
