Orca, ABC A clinch titles at DDBA 3x3 Memorial Basketball Tournament

Dimapur, March 22 (MExN): The Dimapur District Basketball Association (DDBA) organised a two-day 3x3 Memorial Basketball Tournament in honour of Late Tiameren Amri, Technical Director, at the JV Foundation Basketball Court, where Orca and ABC A emerged champions in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.

In the men’s final, Orca defeated TMB A in a high-intensity match to claim the title, while ABC A outclassed Elite in the women’s final.

A total of eight men’s teams and four women’s teams participated in the tournament, which featured 40 matches over two days.

In the third-place playoffs, Pogo edged past TMB B in the men’s category, while ABC B defeated Don Bosco Sports Academy in the women’s bracket. James Tale of Orca was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the men’s category, while Nisino Nakhro of ABC A was adjudged the women’s MVP.

The tournament also served as a tribute to Late Tiameren Amri, a key figure in the development of basketball in Nagaland. He served as Technical Director of DDBA and was known for his dedication, resilience and contribution to coaching and managing state teams.

DDBA General Secretary Yudang Ao expressed gratitude to the family members of the late Amri, Trailblazer Society (trophy sponsor), Dorians Society, Longlangba Odangchetla Trust and others for their support.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Khomen Amri said the event reflected Tiameren’s love for the sport and thanked the association for honouring his legacy.

Moalong Jamir of Trailblazer Society and Meyiwabang Longchar, Chairman of Dorians Society, also paid tribute, recalling Amri’s contribution to the sport and urging that the memorial tournament be continued.

The tournament concluded on a note of remembrance, celebrating the legacy of Late Tiameren Amri and his lasting impact on basketball in the state.
