Orientation and sensitization programme under BBBP scheme held in Cheichama

KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 10 (MExN): The Kohima District Administration in collaboration with District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Kohima held an orientation and sensitization programme under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) on November 10 at Government Higher Secondary School, Cheichama, Chiephobozou.

Giving the keynote address, EAC Cheiphobozou, Ane Khieya gave a brief introduction on the BBBP scheme and stressed on the need to empower the girl child in various aspects, a press release issued by District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Kohima, Mission Shakti informed.

Vilezonuo Rhetso, Advocate cum Panel Lawyer, Kohima DLSA highlighted the POSCO Act and its various aspects like the definition of offences, reporting of offences, lodging FIRs, counseling etc. She stated that it takes a whole community to protect a child.

Dr Akatoli, Medical Officer, Cheiphobozou gave an explanation on “Sexual Health, Menstrual Health and Mental Health.” She spoke on menstrual hygiene and how girls should abstain from early pregnancy as it would greatly affect the health of the mother.

In regard to mental health, she urged the students to seek help and not to confine themselves but that they should speak out. She also called upon the girls to abstain from sex, suicidal thoughts, drugs, alcohol, tobacco and smoking.

Toli K Assumi, Centre Administrator, OSC, Kohima highlighted the one stop centre scheme by emphasizing on the issues faced by women and girls like domestic violence, sexual assault, cyber crimes and rape. She stated the various help through which women and girls can avail under OSC, like- lodging FIR, legal assistance, medical care, counseling and temporary shelter.

The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana scheme was highlighted by Vidilhounuo Solo, Specialist in Financial Literacy, DHEW, Kohima. She explained at length the objectives of the scheme, who can apply, documents requ Toli K Assumi, Centre Administrator, OSC, Kohima ired and where to apply.

Alemyapang Longchar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Cheiphobozou thanked the resource persons and urged them to spread more awareness about the rights of the girl child. He also urged the teachers to spread the message to the younger students so that girl child could become truly empowered.
