A large number of Imphal-bound goods laden trucks along NH-37 are stranded midway in Jiribam district bordering Assam following an economic blockade in Tamenglong district. Around 200 trucks are stranding there, reports said.

The trucks remained stranded along the NH-37 at Leingangpokpi of Jiribam district bordering with Tamenglong district owing to an economic blockade on the highway.

Land and Properties Owners' Association (LPOA) imposed the economic blockade banning movement of goods-laden vehicles along the highway from Tupul to Phaitol area of the district. The blockade commenced from December 12 and to be continued till December 20.

Oil tankers ferrying petrol and diesel are also among the vehicles stranded there.

The stranding of the Imphal-bound loaded trucks came amid the apprehension of the state facing shortage of essential commodities including petroleum products due to the turmoil situation in Assam.

Drivers of the stranded trucks strongly condemned the government’s alleged inaction to end the economic blockade.

LPOA is imposing the blockade along the NH-37 in protest against the alleged non-compliance of ultimatum served to the concerned authority regarding the immediate release of revised land compensation.

The association has been pressing the government to compensate them (landowners) for the land on the sides of the NH-37.
