
Imphal, June 27 (NNN): "Peace is indispensable for development therefore all the communities of the state must love and live in harmonious coexistence", said Congress Working Committee member and Manipur in-charge Luizinho Faleiro Monday.
Speaking as a chief guest at the state level political conference taking stock of the present situation of Manipur Mr Faleiro said that India today is one of the richest and most economically developed countries of the world and this has been possible because of the Congress led UPA government at the Centre.
"India has doubled its agricultural output with the seamless application of new technology, therefore agricultural growth of the country is expected to further propel the overall economy", he said.
Various welfare measures have been introduced by the UPA government besides the 16 flagship programs, he said, adding that various development programs are in the pipeline for Manipur besides the ongoing flagship programs.
He went on to say that the people of the state have reposed their trust by giving absolute majority to the Congress in different elections. The Congress will work to usher in peace and development in the state, he said, and appealed to he people to support and rally behind the party in the coming general election.
Speaking at the same occasion at Polo Ground in the heart of Imphal, chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh said that compare to 2002 when the NDA government ruled at the Centre which was marked by prolonged defaulting of government employees’ salary, under the UPA government the state employees have been enjoying their salaries every month.
Commenting on Lokpal Bill, the chief minister said that “it is premature at this time for the bill to be passed by the Parliament.”
He said that the Jiri-Tupul railway line will be completed in 2014 and Tupul-Imphal in 2016, and appealed to the people of Manipur to support and make the Congress stronger so that many more development can be brought into the state.
