Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang today inaugurated the District Planning Office (DPO) building at Peren and called upon the concerned departments to reaffirm its commitment to work together for progress and prosperity of the Peren district.
“Let this building stand not only as a physical structure but as a symbol of efficient planning, responsive governance and inclusive development,” Zeliang said while inaugurating the office building.
Zeliang, who holds the portfolio of Planning & Transformation and National Highways, stated that the inauguration marked another important milestone in the ongoing development journey of the Peren district and reflects the collective commitment towards strengthening governance and public service.
The Dy CM stated that the creation of administrative infrastructure in this extended model township has always been his priority.
“We are witnessing a renewed momentum in developmental activities and a steady rise in infrastructure development across the district. Roads, government buildings and other essential facilities are gradually taking shape,” he said.
Expressing confidence that the new office would play a crucial role in formulating, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating developmental programmes and projects, he emphasised the need for effective planning and judicious utilisation of resources to ensure development reaches every section of society in a planned and equitable manner.
Zeliang urged all the concerned departments, engineers, contractors and implementing agencies to diligently monitor the works entrusted to them. “Every project must be executed strictly in accordance with the approved DPRs and specifications,” he insisted. Timely completion of projects and adherence to standards must remain our highest priority, he said.
‘Make full use of residential quarters, govt facilities’
Zeliang appealed all the government officials and staff posted in the district to make full use of the residential quarters and facilities provided by the government.
“Infrastructure alone cannot create a township; it is the presence of people, institutions and daily activity that brings life to a place,” he said.
He said that the presence of the employees would contribute towards making this extended model township and the new DC Headquarters, a vibrant bustling administrative centre.
“The vision behind the establishment of the new DC Headquarters was not merely to construct government buildings but to develop a thriving township that would serve as a hub of administration and public services,” he said.
In this, he called for cooperation of every stakeholder, government departments, public leaders, civil societies.
Congratulating all those who involved towards the completion of the DPO building, he said “May this institution continue to play a vital role in shaping the future of Peren district.”
DC call for accelerating Peren district’s growth
Also speaking at the programme, Peren Deputy Commissioner, Hiazu Meru called for continued cooperation among all departments to accelerate the district’s growth.
He thanked the Planning & Transformation Department for constructing the DPO building at Peren.
He underscored the importance of the District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) in addressing developmental issues through coordinated efforts among the departments.
Highlighting various developmental initiatives undertaken in the district, including the promotion of agricultural products under the ‘Green Peren’ brand, Meru stressed the need to strengthen economic activities, particularly in the agriculture and allied sectors.
Meru also called for enhanced biosecurity measures to mitigate the impact of African Swine Fever on farmers.
He stated that the New District Headquarters is being developed as a model district headquarters in accordance with its master plan and acknowledged the contribution of T.R. Zeliang towards infrastructure development.
In technical report, Er. Haulimchoba Chang, EE (Planning) stated that the DPO building was constructed at the total project cost of Rs 95.20 lakh.
The office building, consisting six rooms, has a total plinth area of 104.8 sqm.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Deputy Dev. Commissioner Heinswading while Nlumbui Hengame, Pastor, District Headquarters Fellowship, Peren pronounced dedicatory prayer.
