Pfutsero, October 29 (MExN): Pfutsero Government College celebrated its 8th Alumni Day on Thursday under the theme “Ad Meliora,” meaning “towards better things,” with alumni, faculty members and students coming together to reflect on the institution’s journey and discuss ways to strengthen alumni engagement.

Addressing the gathering as guest speaker, entrepreneur Tewu Mero urged alumni to uphold the values and principles instilled during their college years and contribute meaningfully to society. He called for self-reflection, encouraging individuals to assess their personal progress, set meaningful goals and consider the legacy they wished to leave behind.

Mero described education as a means of empowerment and transformation, and stressed the need for individuals to take responsibility for their lives rather than dwell on missed opportunities or blame circumstances. In the context of rapid technological changes and increasing access to information, he said wisdom, critical thinking and sound decision-making were more important than merely accumulating information. He also encouraged alumni to embrace challenges, uphold integrity and work collectively towards positive social change instead of merely complaining about problems in society.

In her address, Principal Dr. Anungla Pongener acknowledged the contributions of alumni to the college and described them as ambassadors and elder siblings of the institution who could serve as role models for current students. She encouraged alumni to strengthen their engagement with the college through more purposeful initiatives, including educational and interactive programmes involving students, faculty members and parents.
