Niuland, July 10 (MExN): Minister for Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and Cooperation, N Jacob Zhimomi, inaugurated the new PHED Division Office at Niuland Town on Friday, describing it as a step towards strengthening infrastructure and improving public service delivery at the district level.

A DIPR report informed that the office building was constructed at a cost of Rs 1.85 crore. Work began in January 2025 and was completed within the stipulated 18-month period. The department stated that the project was part of its vision to establish quality infrastructure at district headquarters to ensure equitable services for citizens.

Addressing the gathering, Zhimomi congratulated the contractor, engineers and all those involved in completing the project on schedule. He commended the quality of workmanship, describing the newly constructed office as "one of the best government office buildings in the district."

The Minister also encouraged educated unemployed youth to take up farming, skilled trades and labour-oriented work, stating that such initiatives would help them achieve financial independence while contributing to the economy of both the district and the state. He further appealed to public leaders to extend full cooperation to government development programmes in Niuland.

Referring to the Census 2027 exercise, Zhimomi urged residents living in Niuland Town to enroll in their respective wards or colonies rather than in their native villages.

Deputy Commissioner of Niuland, T L Kiusumong Tikhir, congratulated the department on completing the project on time. He also appealed to village councils, gaon burahs and civil society organisations, particularly from Kuhoxu, Viyito and Hovishe villages, to cooperate with the district administration in promoting the district's progress and development.

Short speeches were also delivered by Western Sumi Hoho Vice President Kughalu Aye and GB Hokuto Zhimomi.

Earlier, Superintendent Engineer (P&T) Er Vikienyu Zutsa presented the technical report and keynote address. The programme was chaired by Executive Engineer, PHED Rural Division, Dimapur, Er Nirie-e Nisa, while Executive Engineer, PHED Circle, Dimapur, Er Bursenla Ao proposed the vote of thanks.
