Phek District Dobashis urged uplifting the name of the Association

Phek, February 25 (DIPR): The Phek District Dobashis meet was held on February 25, at the DPDB Conference Hall, Phek. The meeting of the Dobashis, also the first of its kind was graced by the Deputy Commissioner Phek, Mikha Lomi as the chief guest. The programme was attended by all the Dobashis and retired PA’s to DC’s making the meeting a success.
Stressing on the important role of the Dobashis he said that they have to adapt to the present changes and times and also to be active in discharging their duties. He added that the Dobashis should not demand respect but they have to earn it by first learning to respect others. They should not indulge in practices such as gambling or drinking but they should strive to uplift the name of their association wherever they might be. He hoped that through this kind of gathering they would learn more about customary laws, their implementation and interpretation, which would be applied for maintaining peace and tranquillity in the district. He particularly called on the young Dobashis to consult village leaders and elders and to note down the traditional and customary practices as well as other local conventions so that they may be able to solve any kind of problem whenever the situation arises. Dobashis are also known as the eyes and ears of the administration, therefore they have to be very conversant and informative and act as an important link to the administration. He called upon them to extend co-operation to the administration and asked them to give their best services. The DC cautioned the Dobashis not to misuse their uniforms and to avoid any untoward behaviours while on duty or else they would be punished.
The DC also gave a reply on the memorandum submitted to him by the association by saying that he would pursue some of the matters with the higher authorities. It was agreed in principle to organize the program bi-annually. Dobashis with a fixed salary of Rupees 1500/- will be enhanced to Rupess 2000/- as per government order he stated.
