MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu today said that sports have grown into a massive global industry.
Gracing the opening ceremony of the 19th edition Phek Town Inter-Ward Tournament at Phek Town on January 15, he said that the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio has giving huge importance to sports in Nagaland
“Therefore, the ball is in the court of our boys and girls to develop your skills and talents,” he said adding there is no room where you can blame the government as far as sports are concern.
Azo lauded the recent uniform departments having a policy of open recruitment, whereby the most qualified and eligible ones will be selected.
The same has closed the doors for backdoor appointments, he stated, adding “this itself is a big achievement for the Government as slowly and steadily the Government is moving towards accountability and transparency, which is a sign of good governance.”
Later, Azo handed over Rs 20000 cash including a smart phone to Vengozo Sapu from Khuza village, who walked approximately 19 km from his village on foot to Phek town for the recent Nagaland Police recruitment drive at Phek town.
The inaugural function was chaired by Phek Town Youth Society (PTYS) vice president Kekhrienesa Venuh while PTYS president Seyiengoi Soho delivered presidential address.
PTYS Games & Sports Secretary Vekhoseyi Keyho administered oath to the participating teams.
Phek Superintendent of Police Dr Pritpal Kaur, Phek Town Council chairperson Shevohu Nienu, Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) President Kevesa Khamo, Phek Town Public Forum (PTPF) president Api Vadeo, NPF (Central Office Bearer) General Secretary Dr K Hoshi and several other dignitaries also present at the inaugural function.
This tournament, organised by PTYS under the theme “Promoting peaceful & inclusive societies through sports, will continue till January 22.
Phek Deputy Commissioner Rhosietho Nguori will grace the valedictory function on January 22.
