Phek trains ambulance staff in first aid, emergency response

Phek, May 13 (MExN): A training programme on first aid and emergency response for ambulance drivers and attendants was conducted at the Chief Medical Officer’s Conference Hall in Phek on May 13.

According to a press release, the training aimed to equip participants with basic life-saving skills to enable them to provide immediate assistance to injured persons before medical help arrives, handle road accidents effectively, and improve survival chances during critical emergencies.

The session was conducted by Dr Wemeri Khutsoh, Senior Medical Officer at District Hospital Phek.

During the training, participants were oriented on the fundamentals of first aid, its importance during emergencies, and the need for every ambulance to be equipped with a first aid kit.

The resource person also highlighted the roles and responsibilities of ambulance drivers and attendants during emergency situations, stressing the importance of communication, teamwork, quick response, and familiarity with emergency equipment and procedures.

Dr Khutsoh further explained the ABCDE approach to emergency assessment, which helps first responders quickly assess patients and prioritise treatment.

The training also covered Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), an emergency procedure used when a person stops breathing or when the heart stops beating. Participants were briefed on the steps involved in performing CPR.

Ambulance drivers and attendants from different blocks across the district attended the training, informed a press release from NHM Phek. .
