Kohima, October 19 (MExN): The Phom Students’ Conference (PSC), stated that long overdue completion period of NEC-LLG-LAD Road has prompted them to stage a protest march against the department of PWD (R & B) as well as the contractors, throughout the length and breadth of NEC Longleng-Ladigrah Road from 24 October. As per the standing order from the office of Eastern Naga Students’; federation (ENSF) on 27 September 2011, the PSC officials wrote to the chief Engineer PWD (R & B) to implement vide letter no. CE (R & B)/TB/MISC/2010-11/496 dated Kohima 30 August 2011, within 15 days against the contractor under NEC LLG-LAD Group-A and C, the letter stated that “If their reasons are not genuine then the case will be forwarded to the government for cancellation of work order and black list its firm”.
But instead of implementing the letter the Chief Engineer PWD (R & B) has further requested the officials of PSC to extend for another 10 days w.e.f 14 October 2011.A press release received here this afternoon appended by its president Manlang Phom and general secretary Shahsha Mehahü stated that the allotment of work of construction and up-gradation of Longleng-Ladigrah Road under NEC (Group A, B & C), was allotted on 3 November and as per the term and condition the work should have been completed be completed within 24 months from the 7 day of issue of work order.
It added more that though not 100%, yet the construction of road under LLG-LAD Group-B which falls under Phukhato Shohe is on the verge of completion within black-topping, whereas, there are portion of the LLG-LAD Group-A under N.R Zeliang where even first cutting is not yet completed between Yonghei Village and Yongnyah EAC Hq, not to talk of-topping.
Furthermore, it went on saying that the hand machineries of M/S Chabou & Co, under LLG-LAD Group-C were engaged at coal mining throughout the seasons and thus, continuous rain, non-availability of local laborers, increasing hires charge of machineries, frequent sickness of workers, public harassment, breaking down of machineries for the past five years are inconvincible and only an excuse for their lack of responsibility and inability to complete the work.
It was pointed out that NEC Longleng-Ladigraph Road need special attention on security reasons as it passes through Ladigrah village under Longleng District which is a boundary dispute between Nagaland and Assam, it said resulting in the PSC and the general public to decide to go ahead with protest from 24 October if the department consecutively fails to take necessary action within the stipulated time.
