Dimapur, June 28 (MExN): A function to mark International Day of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was held in the office of the Superintendent of Police of Dimapur on June 26. The event was aimed at increasing awareness among the personnel about how illicit drugs represent to health and to the health of the society as a whole, especially to the young generation.
The resource speakers were Dr Akro Keza, a renowned psychiatric from Civil Hospital Dimapur and Limathung, a recovered drug-user and now a member of the CAD Foundation, Dimapur.
Dr Akro Kezo spoke to the gathering on the theme “Think Health-Not Drugs” enlightening the gathering about medicines and drugs and of addiction and dependency on psychotropic drugs, which have become a global problem. He also shared on the problems in Nagaland due to alcoholism and other tobacco related problems, which are equally as serious as other psychotropic substances and drugs.
Limathung of CAD foundation talked on the initiatives undertaken by different Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) related to treatment and care of recovering drug users and of creating awareness on drug related issues in the state. He also talked about various challenges faced by recovering addicts such as the stigma and discrimination from the society against drug-users.
