Peren, July 5 (MExN): The Department of Power, Government of Nagaland, on Saturday organised an awareness programme on smart meter implementation and the Rooftop Solar Scheme at the Peren Town Council Hall to promote consumer-friendly power services and the adoption of clean energy.
The programme, organised by the Office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Electrical), Peren Electrical Sub-Division, brought together government officials, technical experts and members of the public to discuss the benefits of smart metering and rooftop solar as part of the government's efforts to modernise the power sector and promote renewable energy.
Resource persons from ANVIL conducted technical presentations on smart meters, highlighting features such as accurate billing, real-time electricity consumption monitoring and improved energy management.
Representatives of rooftop solar vendors Elmechent Enterprise and A&D Solar explained the Rooftop Solar Scheme, detailing the subsidies available, installation procedures and the long-term savings consumers can achieve by generating their own electricity.
Addressing the programme, Additional Deputy Commissioner Robin, Assistant Engineer (Electrical) Tsiamchi Ndang and Peren Town Council Chairman Mireulung encouraged residents to actively participate in the initiatives. They said smart metering and rooftop solar would help improve energy efficiency, reduce electricity costs and contribute to sustainable development. The programme was chaired by Sub-Divisional Officer (Electrical) Kidosap.
The invocation prayer was offered by Haiku Nza, pastor of Peren Town Baptist Church, while the welcome address and introductory note highlighted the need to create greater public awareness on the transition towards smarter and greener energy solutions. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Junior Engineer (Electrical) Nguyunglo Kesen.
