Power supply hit in three districts after tower collapse

KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 30 (MExN): Power supply to Kohima, Tseminyu and Wokha districts was affected after a 132 kV single circuit transmission tower of the Wokha-Chiephobozou line collapsed at Longsa village in Wokha district on September 30.

The Department of Power, in a statement, said the incident occurred in the afternoon when earth filling was dumped on the tower, leading to its collapse.

It said the 132 kV Sanis-Wokha-Chiephobozou transmission line is a vital link for evacuation of power from the Doyang hydroelectric project and an important element of the state power grid. The department said efforts are on to erect the collapsed tower at the earliest and appealed to the public to refrain from activities that could endanger transmission infrastructure in the future.
