Dimapur, August 19 (MExN): Students of Nagaland University’s University School of Engineering, Technology and Management (SETAM) today said they are not ready to call off their agitations as no satisfactory response has been received from the University authorities. According to the students’ council of SETAM NU officials said erstwhile vice chancellor Prof. K Kannan
A meeting was held between the officials of Nagaland University and students of SETAM in Lumami campus on August 18. During the meeting the students aired their grievances and submitted an ultimatum. A long discussion relating to permanent faculties and the current fee structure were discussed but the students council said it was not at all satisfied with the response from the authorities as the students are demanding ‘execution’ and not an assurances.
“The officials also quoted that it was a failure on the part of the previous Vice chancellor Prof. K Kannan relating to SETAM matters. The students are not ready to call-off the agitation as there is no response on permanent faculties and failure of the officials to give us a positive and immediate approach for renewal of fee structure and the students disagreed to follow NEHU’s fee structure as the facilities for the engineering course provided by these universities are not same,” a note from the SETAM council said today.
Further, the note said, when the students representatives asked about their permanent campus, the officials expressed helplessness ‘as no land has still been allotted for SETAM from the state government.’ The students therefore decided to continue with the agitation and take up the issue with the higher authorities “and whatever be the consequences the university will be held responsible.”
The students also demand an apology “from the headquarter” for handing out a warning statement targeting the leaders of SESC, on August 10. “It was a foolish act in this democratic world as the students are demanding what is rightfully theirs,” the students’ council said.
The SESC has asked all its members to attend a general meeting to be held on August 20 at 9:00 am without failure.
