
Kohima, July 7 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) continuing the first phase of tour to its constituent units held consultative meeting with apex organization of Zeliangrong community at Peren district in the office of Peren Town Women Welfare Organisation on July 6 last.
Speaking on the occasion, Zeliangrong Baudi Nagaland (ZBN) general secretary Azeu Namcyn Hau focusing on the preservation of natural resources said that the Ntangki National Reserve Forest was donated by the Zeliangrong people to the Government. It has now become a common property of the Naga people and world heritage, he said adding that every possible effort should be taken up to protect and preserve it from rampant land intrusion by illegal invaders.
Maintaining that NSF has a very important role to play with regard to the Ntangki issue, he appealed that they should initiate some concrete measures in order to solve the problem.
Dwelling on the issue of rampant taxation by various Naga underground groups in the districts, he said that taxation is extremely high as it is being forcefully collected from every big and small businessmen, contractors and even government servants. The ZBN general secretary expressed fear that with further division in the NSCN-K taxation would increase further. “If the national workers are sincerely working for the just cause of the Naga people, the Naga people will happily extend financial assistance to them, but taxation from all corner is not justified,” he said. The ZBN also stated that even contractors cannot be blamed for the poor workmanship in the district, he called upon the NSF to take up the matter and stop rampant taxation by underground groups.
Zeliangrong Students’ Union president Penam Zeliang highlighted about the apathy of the government schools under Peren district stating that even as there are so many schools but there is huge shortfall of teachers. He said that around 32 government schools have only one teacher while 18 have two teachers. Expressing that rampant upgradation of government schools without providing the required teachers and proper infrastructure will not be any help towards improving the quality of education, ZSU said ‘we want education system to be more practical’.
ZSU also highlighted about the delay in providing study materials and other things by the Education Department. It said that most of the materials are received only by April whereas schools being by January-February and it hampers the process of education. In relation to it, the ZSU urged the NSF to take up the matter with the Government so that sufficient teachers are deployed in the district.
Meanwhile, briefing the gathering about the purpose of the tour, NSF president Kelhouneizo Yhome said as younger generation of the Naga society and also apex student body, the Federation has initiated the tour with a view to reach out and know the minds at the grassroots, intellectual and ‘hoho’ levels about the three prime issue which include Education System and Reforms, Socio-Economic developmental issues and the ongoing Naga Political issue, which are confronting the Naga society.
On the appointment of teachers, he informed that it has been learnt from the department that there are sufficient teachers but only the process of redeployment is being delayed. He asserted that the Federation would take up the matter with the department. He also highlighted about the Right to Education Act, 2009.
On the preservation of the natural resources and reserve forest, he said that the Federation has a strong principle to protect, defend and preserve the Naga rights and it would continue to do so at any cost. He also reiterated the NSF stand on job reservation saying that it should be totally reviewed and done pocket and areas wise and not tribe wise.
Reiterating its support to the Naga political struggle, he said solution should be honourable and acceptable to the entire Naga people. He also maintained that the younger generation cannot afford further division of the Naga society.
Representative from Peren Women Welfare Organisation, other organizations and senior NSF leaders were also present during meeting.

NSF holds ‘goodwill meet’ with KSO

Learning about the NSF tour programme to meet the Zeliangrong bodies at Peren district yesterday, the KSO had requested the NSF team to visit their office in Athibung to discuss certain issues.
Chairing the meeting, KSON president Hentinthang Singson apprised the NSF team about the apathy of the Kuki people living in Athibung. Requesting the NSF to take up their apathy with the State Government, he said the biggest problem of the area is that the entire Administrative circle is being run by only one EAC. He also highlighted about the shortage of teachers in government schools in the area.
Further, expressing their desire to be included as a unit of NSF, he appealed the NSF leaders to considering including them. Representative of Kuki Mothers Association requested for establishing a higher secondary school in the area as there is none. Goan Burah of area also spoke on similar lines.
Senior NSF leader Elu Ndang said that government has already sanctioned another post of EAC for the area, but the differences between the Zeliangrong and Kuki has been hindering any such developmental activities. The people of the area have to be united to bring about development as Athibung circle is not for Kukis but even the Zeliangrong people.
Responding to KSON points, NSF president Kelhouneizo Yhome said NSF is not a government to commit anything but it will try to pursue the much needed things with the Government for the general welfare of the people in the area.
He also called upon the Zeliangrong and Kuki people of the area to work for bringing unity and oneness among themselves to see development in the area. On the affiliation of KSON to NSF, he said the matter would be discussed with the senior leaders and executive of NSF.
