Guwahati, July 12 (MExN): The overall situation in the Dima Hasao district of Assam has become normal to some extent and the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has completed restoration of the hill section within the targeted time frame, an official release maintained.

Due to heavy torrential rains and massive landslides in the 2nd week of May around 85 Kms of railway track in the Lumding – Badarpur hill section of Lumding division were badly affected. The section is located in Dima Hasao district.

Despite rainfall acting as barrier in the work process, the NFR completed restoration and full fledged rail connectivity will soon resume to and from the southern part of the Northeast starting with freight services, informed that release NFR CPRO.

The Railway Ministry also sanctioned Rs 180 crore for the restoration of snapped railway lines following a discussion between the Union Railway Minister, Ashwini Vaishaw, and Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, it said.

The Union Railway Minister then assured the people of Northeast that the train services will resume in the hill section by July 10 and the NFR team worked relentlessly to ensure connectivity to South Assam Tripura, Manipur & Mizoram, it added.

Accordingly, trial light engine runs were conducted successfully at all the affected locations by July 8.

The NF Railway has completed the restoration work in war footing, with the co-ordination and co-operation of different organisations, by mobilising workforce, material and machinery led by Railway's skilled team of engineers, officers and staff, the release said.

As a result, the restoration works taken up by the NFR is the fastest ever in Indian Railways while dealing with such huge natural calamities, it added.
