The NSDMA has forecast an increase in rainfall activity across Nagaland from August 26 to 29, with localised thunderstorms, lightning and light to moderate rain at scattered locations. The highest cumulative rainfall is expected over Peren (93.83 mm), followed by Mokokchung (88.83 mm) and Longleng (83.98 mm).
Kohima, August 25 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has forecast an increase in rainfall activity across the State from August 26 to 29, with localized thunderstorms, lightning and light to moderate rainfall expected at scattered locations.
According to the district-wise weather outlook, thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light to moderate rain are likely over Longleng, Mokokchung, Peren, Phek, Tseminyu, Tuensang and Wokha on August 26.
Rainfall activity is expected to become more widespread on August 27, with light to moderate rain likely at most places in Longleng, Peren, Tseminyu and Tuensang. Thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by rain are also expected over several other districts.
On August 28, localized thunderstorms and lightning with light to moderate rainfall are likely to continue at scattered locations across parts of the State, while light rain is expected at a few places elsewhere.
Rainfall activity is likely to persist on August 29 over several districts, including Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Peren, Tuensang and Zunheboto.
Based on the district-wise rainfall probability for the five-day period from August 25 to 29, the highest cumulative rainfall is expected over Peren at 93.83 mm, followed by Mokokchung at 88.83 mm and Longleng at 83.98 mm. Tuensang is likely to receive 64.99 mm, Tseminyu 63.58 mm, Wokha 58.38 mm, Phek 52.89 mm, Mon 51.53 mm and Dimapur 51.51 mm, while Kohima is expected to receive around 43.96 mm.
The NSDMA advised the public to avoid sheltering under isolated trees or near electric poles during thunderstorms and to exercise caution while travelling in rain and reduced visibility. Motorists have also been urged to take extra care on vulnerable and landslide-prone stretches.
