Imphal | August 8 : Three men have been issued arrest warrant by a local court at Thoubal in Manipur on charges of kidnapping and raping a 34-year old married woman on July 28 last after the victim’s mother approached the court.
The 34-year old rape victim, Sarita, told the media Monday at Manipur Press Club in Imphal that three persons from near her locality kidnapped her on July 28 and raped her overnight at the residence of one of the accused before setting her free the next day.
She identified the three rape accused as Habibulla (28) s/o Md. Najiruddin of Lilong Dam, Mahei (30) s/o Md. Abanbi of Haoreibi and Hasan (31) s/o Md. Yaima of Lilong Turel Ahanbi.
The victim’s mother stated that her daughter was kidnapped by the three accused from Lilong Turel Ahanbi under Lilong police station in Thoubal district on July 28 at 3:30 pm when she was returning home from the local market.
Sarita was blindfolded and her hands were tied before she was taken to the house of Habibulla, one of the accused, where she was sexually harassed and brutally beaten with a stick by her kidnappers. She was forcibly undressed and raped by the three accused several times through the night, said her mother.
After being freed by her captives the next day, she returned home only to be turned back by her husband on the pretext of some primordial Islamic law that if a married woman stays away from the house without accompanied by her husband for a night, she cannot be allowed back into the house. She now stays with her parents.
Sarita suspected her husband to be engaging in the sale and consumption of illegal psychotropic drugs. Several strips of Spasmo Proxivon were also recovered from her house in the absence of her husband by some unidentified persons prior to her kidnapping. She said that her kidnapping might have to do with her husband’s illegal business.
Following a case filed by the victim’s family, a court in Thoubal issued an arrest warrant against the three accused on August 2 but it could not be established if the court directive has been acted upon by the police leading to their arrest.
