Kohima, March 20 (MExN): The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, on Friday organised a reception programme in honour of Gregory Thejawelie, Commissioner of Nagaland, at the Conference Hall of the DC Office.
Expressing gratitude for the reception, Thejawelie reflected on his nearly 10-year tenure in the office in various capacities, describing his service in Kohima as a privilege given its legacy as the state’s oldest district and capital.
He acknowledged the experience gained from working with senior officers, colleagues and staff, stating that their guidance and teamwork significantly shaped his career. He also expressed satisfaction over visible improvements in the office and commended the present Deputy Commissioner and team.
Emphasising that effective governance depends on strong district-level performance, he urged officials to work with dedication, coordination and innovation.
Highlighting the importance of the DC office in public service delivery, he called for greater efficiency, citizen-friendly systems, and enhanced focus on digitisation and infrastructure, while noting constraints such as limited space.
Deputy Commissioner Kohima B Henok Buchem welcomed the Commissioner and described his return as a moment of pride for the district administration.
Recalling Thejawelie’s earlier tenure, Buchem said the district continues to draw inspiration from his leadership, particularly during challenging times. He also highlighted Kohima’s historical significance and noted plans to prepare for its 150-year milestone in 2029.
Outlining key priorities, he emphasised efforts to improve office infrastructure, enhance staff capacity and advance e-governance initiatives for efficient and citizen-friendly service delivery.
The programme was led by Limakumla Pongener, Extra Assistant Commissioner, Kezocha. Speeches were delivered by Alem Yapang Longchar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chiephobozou, on behalf of outpost administrative officers; K Rakalung on behalf of ministerial staff; and Visakholie Nisa on behalf of Dobashis.
Following the event, a re-dedication ceremony of the advanced furnishing of the DC Office was held, during which Pastor Zajamo Odyuo of City Church, Kohima offered a prayer. The Commissioner re-dedicated the office to public service and unveiled a commemorative plaque.
