Reel making competition on clean air awareness in Kohima

KOHIMA, OCTOBER 5 (MExN): A video reel-making competition on the theme “Clean Air, Clean Future” was organized under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) 2024-25 as part of the action point to intensify monitoring of industries to reduce emissions. The event was jointly organised by the District Administration and the District Industries Centre for Information.

The prize distribution programme was held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office on October 3. Chaired by Dr Riku, the event began with an introductory round and an experience-sharing session by the participants. The interaction highlighted the importance of self-awareness, preventive measures, understanding the causes of air pollution, its impact on health, and the collective responsibility of ensuring clean air for all.

Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, B Henok Buchem, NCS, addressed the gathering and encouraged the participants to act as ambassadors of the clean air campaign. He urged them to spread the message widely, emphasising that the success of such initiatives depends on community participation. “In whatever way possible, spread the message. Take inspiration from leaders like Greta Thunberg, make a change, and be the change for a cleaner Kohima,” he said.

Reminding the gathering that while people may have choices in many aspects of life, there is no choice in the air one breathes, he called for sustained efforts rather than one-time exercises. He also advised the youth to align their careers with both their talents and interests.

Altogether, 16 participants competed in the reel-making event, which reached over 3.52 lakh viewers online, successfully amplifying the message of clean and healthy air to a wider audience.

The programme concluded with the distribution of prizes. Khumchose secured the first position, followed by Kevisetuo Keviu Rupreo in second place and Seyielhounuo Keyie in third. Consolation prizes were awarded to Jasmine, Margaret, Anu, Naomi, Kalpana Karki, Elly, Yatuonuo Usou, and Rakovi Pohena.
