DIMAPUR, APRIL 12 (MExN): The Rengma Welfare Society (RWS) has condemned the alleged assault, harassment, death threats, and extortion of two Rengma youths in Manipur.
In a condemnation note issued by its president A Shyerhunlo Lorin, the RWS stated that the incident reportedly occurred along the National Highway between Keithelmanbi and Sapermeina under Kangpokpi district.
The Society termed the incident as a serious violation of human dignity, safety, and basic rights, stating that the victims were engaged in lawful livelihood activities at the time of the incident.
Condemning the act, the RWS stated that such violence and intimidation have no place in a civilized society and pose a threat to peace and harmony among communities.
It urged the concerned authorities to take immediate action by identifying and arresting those involved and ensuring strict legal punishment. The Society also called for strengthening security along vulnerable routes and putting in place preventive measures to avoid recurrence of such incidents.
The RWS conveyed solidarity with the victims and their families and appealed to civil society organisations, community leaders, and authorities to work together to ensure justice and maintain peace.
