Kohima, May 4 (MExN): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies have secured victories in assembly bye-elections across several states, with the party retaining the 28-Koridang constituency in Nagaland.
Daochier I Imchen won the Koridang seat, reflecting voter confidence in the People’s Democratic Alliance’s leadership in the state, Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton said on Monday.
“The responsibility that comes with this mandate will be carried with sincerity and accountability,” Patton said in a press release issued by the Media Cell Dy CM Home & Border Affairs, GoN. “The cooperation among alliance partners and the support of the people have helped maintain stability and trust in the state,” he added.
Patton described as “historic victories” in West Bengal and Assam, with the party attributing the results to sustained grassroots outreach and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national leadership.
Patton noted that the constant engagement with people at the grassroots level, the ability to respond to local concerns, and the commitment shown throughout the campaign were central to these victories. “These outcomes reflect sustained hard work and growing support for the party in these states, and that the dedication of the karyakartas has further strengthened the party’s position going forward,” he asserted.
Patton said the Nagaland unit received organisational support from BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh, MP and National Spokesperson Sambit Patra, and Nagaland Prabhari Anil K Anthony during the campaign.
Benjamin Yepthomi, President of BJP Nagaland, led the state unit’s organisational work, while Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio extended support to the campaign through the PDA alliance framework.
Patton commended the BJP and Naga People’s Front legislators for coming together in support of the PDA consensus candidate and said, “This unity has helped strengthen the alliance and its work in the state.”
