Mokokchung | July 15
With reports of rising COVID-19 cases in neighbouring towns of Assam, the chambers of commerce and industry of four Nagaland districts have today informed that entry of all commercial vehicles transporting goods and commodities from and via Assam would be restricted.
“In view of the inflating number of COVID-19 positive cases in the neighbouring state… and as a precautionary measure to curtail possible community spread of the pandemic in this part of our state..., entry of vehicles transporting essential commodities and all other goods to the districts of Mokokchung, Tuensang, Zunheboto and Longleng shall be temporarily restricted with effect from July 16, 2020,” stated a joint circular issued by the presidents of the 4 district's chamber of commerce and industry.
The four organizations also stated that the “provisional restriction would be lifted at the earliest possible time” and requested the general public not to panic as there was enough stock of essential commodities in all the four districts.
It was also stated that the public information was issued after due consultations and formal communication between the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI), Tuensang Chamber of Commerce & Industry (TCCI), Zunheboto Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ZCCI) and Longleng Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI).
The signatories also informed the Government of Nagaland and the District Task Force on COVID-19 of the respective districts that the “provisional restriction” was being applied in larger public interest and, therefore, should not be construed as a contravention of laid down SOPs.
MCCI President Tsukti Longkumer, when contacted, said that the restriction on entry of commercial goods vehicles from Assam would be restricted at both the Tzutapela and Watiyongbang entry points under Mokokchung district and that the district administration of Mokokchung has been informed of the same.
