‘Revive the valued tradition and customs of the forefathers’

Dimapur, August 7 (MExN): Emphasising that progress of any society is not gauged by the amount of reserved resources but by behavioural characteristic of that particular society, chief advisor of the Chumukedima Town Council (CTC), Thepfulhoutuo Shüya has appealed the student community to revive the valued tradition and customs of the forefathers.
Exhorting the Annual Tribal Freshers’ Meet of the Angami Students’ Union, Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), at CTC Hall on August 6, T Shüya particularly stressed on the esteemed qualities of honesty, sincerity, truthfulness and hardworking attributes of the forefather which are fast vanishing among the younger generations. He has called upon the students to inculcate those qualities to usher in an era of peace and development in the society.
Citing prevailing chaos in the society which is characterized by theft, robbery, cheating, intimidation etc, T Shüya has attributed such activities alien to Naga ways of life but have borrowed from outsiders. He has, therefore, advised the students’ community to be wary and shun from such activities and to persistently pursue their studies with dedication to become a responsible citizens.
He has also cited instances where many Nagas have migrated to other metropolitan cities to avoid from hassle and tension in our home state.
Also quoting remarks of the State chief minister Neiphiu Rio who said, “Hope on heaven is God, hope on earth is politics,” T Shüya has called upon the students to be conscious of the political development taking place in the State. Stating that every activity revolves around politics, he has advised the students to take advantage of the facilities provided by the government.
In his concluding remarks, T Shüya appealed the Angami students to persevere to bring about changes in the Naga society so that in a wider perspective Nagas could bring about changes in the country. He has donated Rs 10,000 towards the Union’s fund.
The welcome address was delivered by president ASU, PCC Keviselie, while speech on behalf of the freshers was said by Kechakuolie and speech on behald of the outgoing students was delivered by Kesoneilie Khro and the vote of thanks was delivered by the union secretary Thejavilie Kintso.
Special numbers and musical recitals added attraction to the programme.
