IMPHAL | November 3

The Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS), Imphal will reopen its OPD (Out Patient Department) for normal services from November 8.

The OPD of the centrally-run premier hospital remained partially functional since the COVID-19 hit the state last year. During the first COVID-19 wave, like other hospitals, RIMS also completely stopped the OPD service.

However, it was later opened partially with doctors on OPD duties attending only those patients who took prior appointments.

Currently, the OPD facility is being provided to the ones who seek appointment through contact numbers of the OPD counter provided by authorities.

No treatment facility is given to those who turn up directly or without prior appointment.

Treating patients with prior appointments will stop from November 8 and there will be no need for taking prior appointments for availing the OPD facilities, said RIMS director A Santa Singh on Wednesday.

The RIMS director informed this while speaking at the inaugural function of opening a pediatric emergency block of the hospital today.

With the opening of the new block for medical care for the children, the Centrally run healthcare centre has three emergency blocks.

The RIMS has its general emergency (casualty) block and gynae block.

With the opening of the new block, the director hoped, reducing the crowdedness in the casualty block besides relieving the problems facing by parents at the time of treatment of their children.

“The public will be immensely benefited from this newly inaugurated pediatric emergency block as pediatricians will be on duty at the block,” the RIMS director said. Besides this, parents will need no ticket for emergency treatment of children as it will provide free treatment to children, he added.

On the occasion, the RIMS director also announced the opening of one more entrance gate of the hospital. He said that with the opening of the new gate, RIMS now has seven gates for entry and the newly opened gate will lead directly to the pediatric emergency block. He further said that RIMS has a proposal of setting up children's ICU at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore.

The opening of ICU especially for the children is a long pending wish of the public which RIMS authority also felt the same, the RIMS director added.
