RPF apprehends illegal migrants, rescues minors & women

Maligaon, January 12 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has made significant strides in curbing illegal immigration and human trafficking during the month of December 2024. A total of 18 Bangladeshi nationals and 1 agent were apprehended at Agartala railway station through various drives, with the majority of these operations conducted in close coordination with other law enforcement agencies.

In one of the notable incidents on December 22, a joint team comprising RPF, Government Railway Police (GRP) from Agartala, and the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) of Badarpur conducted a routine check at Agartala railway station. This operation led to the arrest of three Bangladeshi nationals attempting to enter India illegally. The suspects were later handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal proceedings.

Similarly, on December 19, routine checks at Kamakhya railway station led to the rescue of three runaway minors by the combined efforts of the RPF/SIB team from Guwahati and the RPF team of Kamakhya. After confirming the minors' details, they were safely handed over to Child Line, Guwahati for custody. A further rescue operation on December 29 at Rangapara North resulted in the safe recovery of three minors who had been attempting to travel alone. The minors were promptly transferred to Child Line, Tezpur.

Over the course of the entire year, RPF of NFR demonstrated its commitment to safeguarding vulnerable individuals, rescuing 906 minor children and 61 women, while also apprehending 9 human traffickers. The organization has remained vigilant throughout 2024, conducting extensive checks across railway stations and trains to prevent the illegal migration of individuals from border areas.

Additionally, over 300 illegal migrants were detained during the year.
