Maligaon, January 10 (MExN): Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) conducted drives against anti-social elements in railway stations and trains and apprehended 72 persons during the year 2019.
As per a press release from Subhanan Chanda, Chief Public Relations Officer, the apprehended persons were involved in offences like luggage lifting pick pocketing and chain snatching etc.
The release added that 8 persons were also apprehended for involvement in crime against women. In addition, as many as 18 people were apprehended and handed over to GRP for drugging of passenger during train journey.
It may be mentioned here that recently, RPF personnel of Katihar and CPDS (Crime Prevention & Detection Squad) team of RPF conducted drive at Katihar Railway Station on January 7 and apprehended 5 persons with recovery of stolen mobiles, Ativan tablets, blade, cash, knife, Aadhar cards etc from their possession.
The apprehended persons were identified as Suraj Bisphor (27 years), Dhiraj Bisphor (32 years), Sunil Poddar (30 years), Chhotu Kr Sah (23 years) and Arup Moddak (35 years).
In this connection, Anoop Tiwari/SI lodged a written complaint and handed over all the accused with seized items under the Railway Act and 20/22 of NDPS Act against the accused persons.
