
MALIGAON, SEPTEMBER 10 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of North East Frontier Railway (NFR) has stepped up operations against smuggling of contraband, recovering over 59 kg of ganja valued at more than Rs 6.20 lakh and apprehending four individuals, including three women.
On September 9, RPF Kamakhya post intercepted a male passenger during a routine check, seizing around 6 kg of ganja worth approximately Rs 60,000. The accused and contraband were handed over to GRP Guwahati for further action.
On September 8, a joint team of RPF, dog squad, and GRP at Agartala recovered 27 kg of unclaimed ganja from a coach panel in the yard. The consignment, valued at about Rs 2.70 lakh, was handed over to GRP Agartala for legal disposal.
In another major operation on September 7, RPF Dimapur recovered 16.4 kg of unclaimed ganja worth Rs 1.64 lakh from B4 compartment of Train No. 15946. The seized contraband was handed to GRP Diphu. On the same day, at Agartala, two women were apprehended with 4.69 kg of ganja valued at Rs 88,400.
Earlier, on September 6, RPF Agartala, along with dog squad and GRP, intercepted a woman at Agartala railway station with 4.18 kg of ganja worth Rs 41,800. The accused was handed over to GRP Agartala for further legal action.
The NFR RPF said it remains vigilant in curbing smuggling, theft, and human trafficking, while also assisting passengers during travel. Rail users are urged to report suspicious activity by dialing the toll-free helpline 139.
