Rural livelihood training conducted

Dimapur, September 20 (MExN): The DICE Foundation successfully concluded its first ever three days Rural Livelihood Training Program at Yanpha Village under Wokha District on September 18. The training programme was for 70 women from different SHGs in Ralan Area and Rengmapani.
DICE Foundation Chairman, Mmhonlümo Kikon in a press release informed that the inaugural programme was attended by A Mayowung, Branch Manager, Union Bank of India, as the special guest and Neichute Doulo, Director, Entrepreneurs Associate as the ‘Key Note Speaker of the inaugural programme. Yambemo Lotha, Associate Pastor of the Dimapur Lotha Baptist Church dedicated the Rural Livelihood training Centre besides giving exhortation to the participants. The programme is supported under the Northeast India Initiatives by the Navajbhai Ratan Tata Trust and is primarily for uplifting the rural economy with special focus on women farmers and entrepreneurs by providing a space for training on the managing the Self Help group professionally and understanding the key markets like Yanpha, Bokajan and Dimapur where the agricultural produce are marketed.
In his address A Mayowung, Branch Manager, Union Bank of India, the Special guest, highlighted the intricate relationship between the bank and the SHGs in developing a workable program to generate income for the upliftment of their economic conditions. He emphasised the need for understanding the importance for developing a bankable solution to their proposals for any income generating activities. He also stressed on the issues of availing the schemes offered by the banks and the lack of the right interface between most villagers and the bankers. He expressed his willingness to offer any assistance to any viable projects by any of the SHGs provided they have a sound and healthy financial management system in their SHGs.
The Keynote Speaker, Neichute Duolo, recounted experiences in his native Village Thetsumi, under Phek District, where farmers willing to make the right sacrifice and follow the right practice were able to go beyond their means in exacting rich harvest especially in banana plantations and also Mithun rearing. He challenged the women gathered to evolve a sound management system within their households and also in their SHGs without which they would not be able to channelize their resources for profit.
Mr.Yambemo Lotha likened the focus on women in the rural sector as a revival of our priorities towards economic self-sufficiency and prayed that the changes we bring about would lead to a healthy society through the mothers present in the training.
The three days program trained the women SHGs on the importance of SHG management, understanding the surrounding markets in the attempt to avail the best price for their produce and affecting a healthy change in their system to attract any kind of investment for agri-related businesses.
