In observance of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the District Administration, Department of Social Welfare, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Sakhi-One Stop Centre (OSC) and Child Helpline Wokha, under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), organised an awareness programme at Santsuo School, Wokha on July 30.
Observed under the global theme, “Trapped Behind the Scam,” the programme aimed to raise awareness among students about human trafficking, its various forms, and the increasing risks posed by online scams and digital platforms.
Speaking during the programme, Nzanmongi, Case Worker (Legal), Sakhi-OSC sensitised the students on the deceptive methods commonly employed by traffickers to lure vulnerable individuals through fraudulent online schemes and false promises. She stressed the importance of remaining informed, vigilant and cautious while engaging with people, particularly on digital platforms.
The students were also educated on identifying warning signs of human trafficking and were encouraged to promptly report any suspected cases to the appropriate authorities. Information on available helpline services was shared to ensure timely assistance and intervention for victims or those at risk.
