DIMAPUR | AUGUST 30 : As part of the State Bank of India corporate social responsibility (CSR) and celebration of Teachers’ Day, which falls on September 5, the country’s leading bank today donated infrastructure items to schools and other educational institutions throughout the country.
In Nagaland, the main function was held at SBI regional office, Dimapur, with District Education Officer (DEO) Asono Ndang as the chief guest.
The DEO in her address to head of schools and SBI officials said that SBI, with branches spread out in every nook and corner of the country, has become synonymous with banking catering to all sections of people.
Asono said that SBI, which is the lead bank in most North East states, has been rendering yeoman services in almost all spheres of developmental activities, including loans to local entrepreneurs, donations to various organizations and self help groups and adoption of girl child.
The DEO, on behalf of the state Education department and beneficiary schools thanked the bank for the CSR scheme. Asono further hoped and wished that the bank would prosper and touch the lives of every citizen of the country.
Chief Manager (Lead Bank Dimapur) David Kire in his welcome address said that as part of the bank’s CSR, the bank decided to donate fans and water filters to schools located in plain and hill areas respectively.
Chief Manager and officiating AGM, N Biswas, in his address said SBI initiated CSR or community service banking way back n 1972 to help the neglected and poorer section of the society.

Meanwhile, SBI in a press release stated that every year the country’s leading bank with 1500 branches spread throughout the country earmarks 1% profit for donation to charitable institutions, organizations, NGOs, schools and colleges under CSR.
This year, the Bank decided that every SBI branch should donate infrastructure items like fans, drinking water facility, desks and benches to needy schools.
In Nagaland with 51 SBI branches, the bank donated a total of 200 ceiling fans, 40 water filters and 20 benches and desks amounting to Rs. 6 lakh, to 51 schools, the release added.
