Second Oxygen Express train reaches Assam: NFR

Maligaon, May 26 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has informed that the second Oxygen Express train  carrying 4 containers loaded with 80 MT of Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) arrived at the Inland Container Depot at Amingaon in Assam on May 26.

The train left Tata Nagar in Jharkhand on May 25, covering a distance of 630 kilometres in about 9 hours along a green corridor which was created for fast and safe movement of the train carrying life saving consignment, according to a press release from the NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer Subhanan Chanda.

In the fight against COVID-19, NFR is making all out efforts to assist state governments in every way possible, the release stated, while adding that the first Oxygen Express carrying 80 MT of LMO from Tata Nagar on May 22, arrived at Amingaon on May 23.

Chanda stated that so far, the Indian Railways has delivered more than 17,945 MT of LMO in more than 1,080 tankers to various states across the country. A total of 272 Oxygen Expresses have completed their journey so far and brought relief to various States, he added.

In a scale up of operations which continued till late Tuesday night, 12 Oxygen Expresses with 969 MT of LMO started their journeys from cyclone hit eastern states and beat tough weather to take relief to the nation, the release stated.

The railways have mapped different routes with oxygen supply locations and are ready to deal with any emerging need of the states.

In order to ensure that oxygen relief reaches in the fastest time possible, the Indian Railways is creating new standards and unprecedented benchmarks in running of Oxygen Express Freight Trains on high priority Green Corridors, it added.
