Dimapur, March 25 (MExN): Nagaland Police have announced comprehensive security measures for the upcoming bye-election to the 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency in Mokokchung district. As per the directives of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the poll day is scheduled on April 9 with the counting of votes set for May 4.
The Nagaland Police in its press release on Wednesday stated that the Office of the Chairman, Ceasefire Monitoring Group (CFMG)/Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFSB), has issued security instructions in connection with the upcoming bye-election and has emphasised the need for all factions of the NSCN to adhere to the core objective of maintaining peace during the election period. In line with this, a strict directive has been issued prohibiting the carriage of weapons of any kind within Mokokchung district. The ban will come into effect from March 24, 2026, and remain in force until further notice. Police said the lifting of the ban would be decided after May 4, 2026, based on the prevailing security situation.
“These instructions apply to all cadres, including holders of special Ceasefire Identity Cards,” it stated. The authorities have urged all stakeholders and the general public to cooperate fully in ensuring a peaceful and successful conduct of the bye-election.
