Seized IMFL destroyed at KMC dumping site

Kohima | September 3 : By the order of the district and session judge Kohima, the team led by M.T.Therieh, Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kohima, Representatives from the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), Angami Women Organization (AWO), Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) and Police personnel destroyed seized IMFL and other substance at KMC dumping site here this morning.
The seized materials were estimated at the cost of Rs. 1, 20,88,800. There were 1616 cases of IMFL six cases, 910 kgs of Ganja from five cases and 3 kgs of Opium from two cases.
Naga Mother’s Association (NMA) vice president, Sarah said the destroyed goods are just a part of the liquor flowing into the state and questioned how the greater numbers of truckloads of liquor, which are transported to Nagaland are ignored.
“It is not only the duty of the officials concerned but everybody should take initiative. Let us take an active part in cleaning our town,” she said.
Angami Women Organization (AWO) vice president said that “as mothers, we are concerned about our husbands, and children indulging in drinking, but if they are getting it freely, how can we stop it?” Long time since the Total Liquor Prohibition Act has been passed, but how far is the state government implementing it? “Is this law good for us or is it just in the paper?” she questioned adding that it should be the effort of everybody from top to bottom.
