
Dimapur, SEPTEMBER 21 (MExN): Two injured FGN (Non-Accordist) cadres on the run from the law, following the encounter with the police at Phek on September 15 last are now in police custody. The shooting had occurred a few kilometers away from Phek town towards Phek village.
According to reliable sources, the two cadres had managed to sneak down to Dimapur seeking medical attention for bullet wounds received during the firing incident. They then got admitted in one of the hospitals here.
Dimapur police got wind of their presence and promptly arrested the duo on September 20 while Phek police were also informed. They are now in protective custody of the police in hospital. The sources said that one was injured in the leg and the other in the arm. They will be taken into custody by the Phek police after they recover from their wounds.
Phek Superintendent of Police further corroborated the information on Wednesday evening. The Phek police chief said that four persons were arrested by the police after the firing on September 15 while four managed to escape. The two injured, who were caught in Dimapur were among the four absconders. The SP further said that of the four arrested that day, two were later released after they were found to be not party to the FGN cadres.
Further, contrary to the earlier report, there were eight FGN cadres in the vehicle, but the exact number of persons is yet to be ascertained, the SP said. The occupants, reportedly carrying weapons, had ignored the command of the police personnel to halt the vehicle, who were on the look out for the cadres following receipt of complaint that they extorting money from commuters. It resulted in the police personnel firing at the vehicle to prevent them from escaping. Two occupants of the vehicle were injured in the firing but managed to escape alongwith two others, while four were arrested from the spot.
