Dimapur |August 30 : Students of School of Engineering and Technology and Management (SETAM), Nagaland University, Dimapur journeyed to the University’s Headquarters at Lumami to picket the Vice Chancellor’s office following the University’ failure to meet their ultimatum submitted earlier.
A total of 135 students under the aegis of the SETAM Engineering Students’ Council arrived at Lumami early this morning in three buses and picketed the Vice Chancellor’s office demanding a “hard copy of assurance” from the University’s head.
President of SETAM ESC, Menyawongto, told this correspondent that the University authority is “reluctant to give in to the genuine demands of the SETAM students’ council” and that the authority is only “trying to justify themselves.” He also said, “We are not returning without a hard copy of assurance.”
It may be mentioned that the SETAM ECS representatives and the Committee on SETAM Affairs under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, BS Chauhan, had last met on the latter’s office chamber on August 18 last, wherein the Committee is understood to have apprised the students and informed the relevant facts on the matter to the students.
The SETAM ESC had earlier submitted a five-point ultimatum demanding for an Administrative Officer for SETAM Dimapur, immediate procurement of necessary facilities including furniture and fixtures in the hostels, immediate procurement of practical equipments, finalized statement of fee structure and immediate appointment of permanent faculty.
Meanwhile, media persons tried to meet the Vice Chancellor to place some queries but could not meet him as he was busy convening a meeting of the Committee on SETAM Affairs. The meeting’s outcome and the students’ response thereon could not be ascertained till the filing of this report.
