Shamator, September 23 (MExN): The need to create more avenues and spaces that enable senior citizens to remain active, engaged and maintain their physical and mental well-being was highlighted at a special programme held at Shamator Town Baptist Church on September 22.
The programme was organised by Shekinah Christian Foundation (SCF) in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, Nagaland.
Speaking on behalf of the District Administration, EAC Shamator Mekato J. Aye emphasised the importance of embracing “change” as part of efforts towards a healthier and more fulfilling life. He stressed the need for opportunities and spaces where senior citizens can remain active and engaged while supporting their physical and mental well-being.
The programme began with a walkathon from Traffic Tower Junction to Shamator Town Baptist Church, with senior citizens and other participants taking part to promote healthy living and community participation.
District Programme Officer, Social Welfare, Renchano Odyuo highlighted various old-age schemes and programmes being implemented in the district and urged senior citizens to make judicious use of the assistance and benefits provided by the department.
Dr Ezra Anar, Dental Surgeon, CHC Shamator, spoke on healthy lifestyle habits and shared practical tips for maintaining good health and longevity.
Referring to the health and longevity of Japanese citizens, he highlighted the importance of healthy eating and an active lifestyle and encouraged participants to adopt similar practices where possible.
The programme also featured healthy games conducted by Lato, Youth Pastor, STBC, followed by an interactive session led by Pastor Wati, Ao Baptist Fellowship, Shamator Town.
Managing Director, Shekinah Christian Foundation, Birila Tokiu expressed gratitude to the DSW and all those who contributed to the programme.
