The State government of Meghalaya on Wednesday decided not to extend the three-day lockdown of Shillong agglomeration which began on Monday and ended on Wednesday midnight.
The three-day lockdown was re-imposed in the Shillong agglomeration to facilitate aggressive contact tracing.
Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong informed that the decision not to extend the lockdown was taken after considering the inputs from the district administration as well as the Health department.
“However, we have decided that random testing will be aggressively conducted,” Tynsong.
It may be mentioned that recently the government had identified 71 clusters all over the State where random testing will be done.
Tynsong also informed that the notification of containment areas will be on till all contact tracing is done.
“The containment areas have been proposed by the Health department for doing contact tracing and after all have been traced the district administration will take a call on it,” the Deputy Chief Minister added.
Meanwhile, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman Warr said that during the three-day lockdown a total of 1118 contacts have been traced from the containment areas.
“In all those containment areas the contacts were tested and their results returned negative for COVID-19,” Dr. Warr said.
On the delay in testing wherein those contacts have to wait for hours to get themselves tested, he said that there was shortage of manpower.
“We are training the health workers to use the antigen test kits to speed up the process,” he also said.
