SKK cautions absentee government employees, orders intensified inspections

Dimapur, June 10 (MExN): The All Sümi Students' Union (SKK) has expressed deep concern over to what it alleged as the continued absence of certain government officials and employees from their respective places of posting despite “repeated warnings, directives and inspection orders” issued by the Union.

Accordingly, the SKK has once again directed all concerned officials and employees to immediately report to and remain at their respective places of posting.

Failure to comply, it stated, would invite scrutiny, public exposure and the forwarding of documented reports to the competent authorities for necessary disciplinary action.

A press release issued by SKK President Hipito Achumi and General Secretary P Samuel Chophy pointed out that on March 5, it had directed all government employees to remain at their designated stations and discharge their duties responsibly.

It had also instructed its constituent units to conduct inspections and submit reports on the functioning of government offices within their jurisdictions.

However, as per the Union, some officials continue to remain absent from their places of posting, resulting in inconvenience to the public and affecting the delivery of government services.

The SKK termed the alleged absenteeism a serious dereliction of duty and stated that government service carries responsibilities towards the welfare of the people. It maintained that continued disregard for official duties would not be tolerated.

Thus, it cautioned all concerned officials and employees against such absenteeism and directed them to remain at their respective places of posting.

The SKK further directed all its constituent units to intensify inspections and monitoring activities and submit detailed reports on officials found absent without valid justification.

Reaffirming its commitment to accountability, transparency and efficient public service delivery, the Union stated that it would continue to monitor the functioning of government offices across Sümi-inhabited areas and take necessary measures to ensure that public services are delivered effectively.
