Calls for appointment of language teachers in schools
Kiphire, April 11 (MExN): The Sangtam Literature Board (SLB) conducted a campaign on the theme “The importance of Mother-Tongue” at Kiphire Town, Yangli Mission Centre and Tsithrongse Village, Chümoukedima on April 8 and 11 respectively. The SLB in a press release stated that the campaign was held with the approval from the Department of School Education.
The campaign focussed mainly on Nagaland Heritage Studies (NHS) and National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 which will be strictly implemented by the next academic year.
In this regard the SLB called for strengthening the SMC and SMDCs and Language teacher-designates to prioritise teaching mother tongue in their respective schools so as to foster a strong foundation that would empower students and strengthen their connection to our roots and heritage through learning in schools.
“The SLB has learnt that there were shortages of textbooks in many Government Schools which is hindering the very purpose of teaching and learning,” the Board stated. In this regard, the SLB has requested the School Education Department to consider looking into the matter. Another issue is the shortage or non-availability of language teachers in the schools, it stated.
“The SLB felt that language teachers should be appointed on priority basis without which the agenda of pushing forward the various education policies becomes far-fetched,” it observed.
The SLB has thanked the USSC and its federating units, school authorities, Hd GBs and Village Council chairman of all the villages under Sangtam areas for their support in taking forward the agenda of prioritising mother tongue teaching in schools.
